Helping out our Aunt

Happy Lunar New Year! It’s the year of the Snake.*

snakesWay before my Uncle L married Aunt S, they lived in different houses. Aunt S hated (and probably still hates) snakes. So, when my brother and I were little and we’d go visit Aunt S, she’d give us an empty dog biscuit box so we could catch the garter snakes in her yard and take them home to our yard. It kept us busy each time we visited. And some how, there was always snakes for us to catch.

One time, when we’d gotten home and weren’t done torturing weren’t done playing with hadn’t yet released the snakes, my brother reached his hand into the box and a snake bit him! Right on the fleshy bit between the thumb and forefinger.

I think I laughed. I know I’m laughing now.

(This memory was brought to you by my aunt sharing this photo with me today on FB.)

*Edited to add the first sentence. I wished friends the same on FB, which was probably what prompted my aunt to think of this today.

  1. Good to know I wasn’t the only little girl who liked to play with snakes. 🙂

I hope you wished your aunt and brother a happy Year of the Snake!
