Abbreviations

This is a list of the many commonly used abbreviations on the internet for TTC, IF treatments and just in general. I may or may not use these, depending on my mood. But they are here in case they are needed. I’ll try to remember to update as I put new acronyms into use.

2WW – Two Week Wait
AF – Aunt Flow (aka: menstration)
ALI – Adoption, Loss and Infertility
BCP – Birth Control Pills
BD – bedding down / baby dance (aka intercourse)
BH – Braxton Hicks
BFP – Big Fat Positive (Positive HPT)
BFN – Big Fat Negative (Negative HPT)
CD# – Cycle Day __
DH – Dear Husband
DPO – Days Past Ovulation
DPT – Days Past Transfer
DTD – Do The Deed (aka: have sex)
Endo – Endometriosis
ER – Egg Retrieval
ET – Embryo Transfer
FET – Frozen Egg Transfer
FIL – Father-in-law
HPT – Home Pregnancy Test
IC – intercourse
ICSI – Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (injecting sperm directly into the egg)
IRL – In Real Life
IUI – Intrauterine Insemination (the turkey baster method)
IVF – In Vitro Fertilization
KELA – The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kansaneläkelaitos)
mc – Miscarriage
MIL – Mother-in-law
Mr Siili – My husband
Neuvola –  Maternity & young children’s clinic here in Finland that all expectant mothers go to for monthly appointments
O – ovulation
OPK – Ovulation Predictor Kit
Paxlet – the little thing growing in me
PIO – Progesterone in Oil (I’ve not used this, but I’ve seen it mentioned on other blogs and had no idea what it was for the longest time, which is why it is here in this list.)
PGH – the clinic I go to for IF treatments
POAS – Pee On A Stick (take a pregnancy test)
PUPO – Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise
RAOK – Random Act of Kindness
RE – Reproductive Endocrinologist
RHCP – Red Hot Chili Peppers (the band)
SA – Semen Analysis
Stimming/Stims – Taking Stimulation Medications
TBR – To Be Read (list of books)
TI – Timed Intercourse
TMI – Too Much Information
TTC – Trying to Conceive
u/s – Ultrasound
