I’m going to be an aunt

A bit ago, my sister informed the family that she is pregnant. I’m thrilled for her! It’s only slowly dawning on me that I’m going to be an aunt! I’m thrilled for me. (I only wish I lived closer.)

Happy birthday, Tadbit!

My little girl is one year old!! I’m in disbelief, awe and love. Where to begin?

I never expected a second child. I had hoped for a sibling for Paxlet, but I didn’t believe our one frozen embryo would amount to anything (it didn’t, in the end we donated it to science) nor that my body would spontaneously do what it was supposed to on its own. I’m still surprised that my body decided to get pregnant “like that”. I’m also proof that it only takes once to get pregnant. I just can’t believe I have what I’ve wanted for so long. I’m truly lucky.

Tadbit is growing into a little person. She’s quickly developing a personality all her own and whoa is it going to be a big one. But what would you expect when she has me for a momma?

– She doesn’t like to be told “no” (who does?). She gets the biggest pouty-quivery lip when I tell her no and she doesn’t like it. For now, it is insanely cute. Ask me about it again in a few years or when she’s a teen.

– She’s had 6 teeth (two on the bottom and 4 on the top) for a couple of months now. Thankfully not much biting, yet. And no drooling!

– Tadbit has been walking for a bit over a month now. She’s even started running a bit! That could explain why she doesn’t talk yet. Her brain and body have been working hard on getting her up and going, so she can keep up with her brother.

– She does babble up a storm. Again, she has me for a momma. She does “caw” at crows, or any bird really.

– Speaking of crows, she loves animals. Our cat wouldn’t mind being loved a bit less, but that’s what a grumpy 16 year old cat is like. She can spot a dog half a block away. And when we went to see Pappa’s horses, Tadbit eagerly had her hand out to touch the horse. She even got to sit on one of the horses! No fear from her.

– Tadbit is a hugger. I just love all the times she will lay her head on me. I’m soaking them up, because I know they won’t last forever. (It’s definitely harder to get hugs from Paxlet these days.) On the other hand, she has started to throw tantrums. Don’t want to lay on the changing table? She screams and tries to roll away. Don’t want to put outside clothes and shoes on? She can arch her back with the best of them. Momma is too slow when feeding her food? She screams the house down!

– This little girl of ours just adores her bigger brother. She copies him, in good and bad, emulates him the best she can and really just wants to be around him. When Paxlet is at daycare, she will push his cars around like she sees him doing. Paxlet, being bigger, has a decent collection of choking hazard toys. We’ve put them in a little carrying case that Tadbit can’t open yet. But she wants to play with those toys so badly! So, we’ve started letting her play with them as long as Mr Siili or I am sitting there with her. She is in heaven! She’ll go find the “treasure chest”, bring it to one of us and plop her bum on the ground with a big grin on her face, waiting for us to open it up. How can you say no to that?

I love my little girl! This year has gone by fast and I know future years will be that same. But I can’t wait to see how this little girl will grow, change and become her own person. At the same time, it will continue to be amazing to see how much a like and yet different she and her brother are. They might share the same genes, but they are definitely their own person.

I love them both and can’t imagine my life without either of them. I count my lucky stars every day.

#MicroblogMonday – I survived 8 weeks of summer with both kids at home

I’m a bit torn over my feelings on this post title and the content to come. Yes, I know I wanted not one kid, but two and I have been extremely lucky to have them. However, with Paxlet quickly coming up on 3 years of age, he is a handful! He sometimes fights anything and everything I do or say and then screams or cries when something is done that he doesn’t approve of. Add on top of that the refusal to take a nap, even if it is needed, or even rest for a short bit, unless we are in the car then falling asleep is a given. Having him home these last 8 weeks from daycare has been totally exhausting! So, in that sense, I survived those times when he was screaming, crying and fighting me.

I realize that people who have twins, or more, deal with more than one kid all day from the get go. I also realize that not all moms can or want to have their older kids in daycare while they are at home. For me, I have found it a godsend while I was getting my feet under me after having Tadbit. It helps that Paxlet likes his daycare lady and the kids. Plus they are able to play his extra energy out much better than I am.

During the times he was happy, not screaming and we were working on things in the same direction, summer was great! We did quite many things at home and away from home. I enjoyed the good times. Paxlet is truly a smart, talkative (my ears are hanging on by threads) and sweet little boy that is growing up so fast.

In “honor” of Paxlet heading back to daycare today, Tadbit and I had a restful day at home and I took a nap with her in the morning. Aaahh! Sleep!

#MicroblogMonday – My MIL is awesome

I can’t believe I forgot about #MicroblogMonday last week! This week, I am prepared!

mil mittens

My MIL made these for me for xmas. That in itself is pretty cool, well actually warm. What is really sweet and caring is that the blue yarn was some of my mom’s yarn, which I gave to my MIL a few years ago because it is her favorite color. Instead, my MIL knitted me something with it, because it was my mom’s.

Every time I wear these mittens I feel loved and happy.

2 years, 1 month, 1 day or better late than never

I never did update about Paxlet turning two. Here’s to better late than never!

Paxlet’s birthday was much better than I had hoped for. Sure, we didn’t get the grandparents, all the aunts, uncle and cousins over, but we did have one aunt and a friend with her family over for the afternoon. And my very good friend R stopped in for a sec to drop off Paxlet’s present as her two kids were sick. Paxlet enjoyed himself. Especially the gifts, raspberry muffins (instead of a cake) and ice cream. Oh, the ice cream! This kid loves ice cream! It ended up being a relaxed day and afternoon. My boy was happy and therefore I was happy. We did Skype with Grandpa and Grandma S later in the evening.

Sometimes it is truly unfathomable to believe that Mr Siili and I have a two year old boy. Not only have 2 years gone by with him in our lives, but he’s grown by leaps and bounds. In fact, he continues to amaze us daily. Just last night in fact, as we were putting Paxlet to bed, I sang him the Teddy Bear song upon request. When I was done, Paxlet stated it was his turn to sing it. He starts off with a few Teddy Bear’s and then I help him out by singing a line and waiting for him to repeat. Can I just say, we are some proud parents with hearts bursting of joy. It was the cutest thing we had ever heard.

I know we are biased as parents, but he really is smart and a well behaved kid. Paxlet talks up a storm, mostly in Finnish, but talking none the less. I wouldn’t even be able to tell you how many words he has because it truly is that many, plus more are learned each day. He really is saying “tuhma” and I still hate it. What’s worse, is when we tell him not to call us or the cats naught/stupid, he laughs and thinks it is funny.

He’s got many of his colors down (some in English, some in Finnish). This morning he pointed to his socks I held in my hand and said “brown socks” or was it “brown sukat”. Either way, he was correct. Mr Siili and I, and the daycare lady, mention colors quite often when pointing things out. It’s just a part of everyday life.

Paxlet seems to understand the concept of 1 and 2, but anything more than that is…difficult still. When we go out to the car, he quite often tells us how many cars are under the car park. Again, if there are more than two, he doesn’t quite get it and usually he counts the cars other than our car.

Paxlet loves the letter S. It is the first letter of his first and last name and he wants it drawn all the time. He also likes X and O (sometimes called circles). He points out the letter S to us quite often these days, although, sometimes it isn’t an S.

Paxlet is mostly potty trained!! By mostly, I mean that he isn’t always telling us he needs to go and we have to ask or “remind” him most of the time that he needs to go. But even just in the last month since his 2nd birthday he’s gotten much better. On the times that we still have to remind him use the potty, he will generally go without a fight. When he does put up a fight, we tell him he doesn’t have to pee, just sit on the potty. It usually works. There are only a few accidents at daycare and home each week. In the last couple of weeks, he’s even started telling us more often when he does need to go. It’s great! Especially when it is a poo. His most recent finding is the “big potty”! He loves using the it. I love it also because it is even easier to clean!!! I love how this has worked so well for us and that there hasn’t been a horrible fight to get him to use the potty (it has been apart of his life since he was 4 months old). Nights and naps still require a diaper, although most of the time he is dry in the morning.

He loves the color orange, diggers, cars, motorcycles, bikes, Legos (Duplos), coloring, drawing, crafts, baking, daycare, the park, rides on the bus (even short, 1 stop rides) and so much more. Paxlet is an all around happy little boy and is so much fun to be with.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Paxlet. I’m so looking forward to celebrating many more adventures with you.

Woohoo work update!

I have a continued position at my work!!!! It is in a different team, doing different stuff, but I have a job. I am so very, very thankful and relieved. Happy early Thanksgiving to me (even if it isn’t celebrated here in Finland and I’ve had a hard time remembering it this year).

Yesterday, I had an “interview” with someone I hadn’t talked to before and the team leader with which I have a position now. She had only sent me the invite for this chat Monday evening after I had already gone home. So, it was a surprise to me when I came to work Tuesday morning. Today, at 9:37 am exactly, I got a chat message from the same lady, my future team leader, asking if I had time to come talk to her. She said that in situations like this, she wants to have the talks and notify everyone as quickly as possible. I couldn’t agree more! I was anxious and hopeful walking into the room, but I was extremely happy and even a bit surprised when she offered me a position with her team. I did tear up a bit, but managed to not cry.

This new position/restructured organization doesn’t take place until December 1st, but it will still be some time after that before I will start learning my new position. I will be needed in my current position to help transition work to the outsourcing company and getting the new team situated. I don’t mind it taking time, because I have a continued job!

So, happy day for me. And unfortunately it is going to be a sad and heartbreaking day for many others.

And now for me to get back to work and quite blogging. 😀

p.s. I wonder if my phone is broken… I sent a message to Mr Siili and best friend, R, but neither has responded yet. 😦 Although to be fair to Mr Siili, he is probably still sleeping as he hasn’t been sleeping to well at night because of a nasty cough.
