#MicroblogMonday – Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! We’re not doing much to celebrate it here, but I have put my cat ears and tail on for the day. I get lots of looks. LOL.

The kids and I made pumpkins the other day. These are mine.

The winter tires were put on my car this weekend. I’m so thankful to Mr Siili and his brother (and family). The snow can come now. In fact, I’d prefer a bit colder and snow than this hovering just above freezing. The damp cold just goes to my bones.

Daylight savings was this last weekend. I forgot about it and thought the kids had actually let us sleep in until 7:20! It took me two hours to realize the time had changed and Tadbit had actually woken me up at 6:20. This morning was even worse.
Let me just say, kids + daylight savings = suckage!

I’m heading to my glass class again tonight. I’m by far the youngest person there, at 40 years of age. There are a couple of Finns that have lived in the US for many years and one Swedish-Finnish lady, but I still feel like I am the only foreigner. Everyone is nice and their works are amazing. I feel I need to step up my game and do something where I actually take my time to do it properly. Most of all, it’s nice to have a few hours of total me time.

#MicroblogMonday – This and That #4

It feels like forever since I posted when I miss a week of #MicroblogMonday. Thankfully Monday comes around again each week.

This is the last week of holiday for us all. Paxlet goes back to daycare and Tadbit will start daycare. Mr Siili heads back to work and I will be heading back to work for the first time in just under a year and a half.

We’ve gone to a lot of parks the last few weeks. It keeps the kids entertained and they can be as loud as they want.

Paxlet has taken to whinging. About everything and nothing. Literally. I put his dinner in front of him and he whinges he doesn’t like it. I don’t give him food, he whinges where is his food. Please tell me this is only a phase! In the meantime, how can I keep my cool and not want to strangle my kid. I’m sort of joking.

Tadbit is very much into Monkey see, monkey do. It’s laughable and frustrating. She loves her big brother.

I colored Paxlet’s mohoawk with Peacock blue/green. He loves it.

I bleached and re-colored my hair. This time it’s half Bella Blue and half Patsy Purple. A fun change!

I trimmed Tadbit’s bangs for the first time. *sniff*

We stayed at the in-laws for a few days. My MIL turned 70 and had a great party while we were there. I made this as her birthday card. Can you tell what it is? It’s a chanterelle mushroom!

We stayed the night at a friend’s house in the country. Then the next day we went to Ponimaa (Pony land). There is lots of animals, some of which you can pet. Kids get a pony ride.
This year, Pinto the Falabella horse performed.

I’ve found some clothes at a second hand store. One skirt was only 7€, brand new it would be around 40€. And most recently, one shop had their 1€ day and I found 2 skirts and 3 shirts for 5€ total! I even found a couple of cute things for Tadbit. As if that is hard to do.

Tadbit is still having issues falling asleep at night. I can handle the wiggling and playing around, usually. It’s the screaming that starts to frustrate me. I hope this passes soon.

I’ve lived in Finland for 17 years.

I turn 40 on Thursday.

Mr Siili is buying me a new, to me, laptop. It’ll be much faster than this one.

I’m having a party on Saturday. I’m not really looking forward to it. So many people have canceled for one reason or another. Bleh. I’m still going to make my Muzzy’s Cheesecake and Chewy Gooey Brownie Cake.

Life sure is…everything.

#MicroblogMonday – Mohawk and Pigtails

Aaaand it’s Tuesday.

Paxlet finally asked for a hairstyle. A mohawk!!! And off we went to the hairdresser, as it was time to get it cute anyway.

I think if he still likes this style, next time we can get the sides even shorter and the ‘hawk part more defined. And as soon as I’m not feeling lazy, we’re going to color his mohawk also. Green? Purple? Blue? I’ve got them all, he just needs to decide.

Little miss Tadbit isn’t to be outdone, either. Her hair is getting long enough for pigtails and a hair pretty on the front (to keep her bangs/fringe out of her eyes). The hair clip is quick and easy to put in and she loves it. The pigtails or ponytails on the other hand result in screeches as I am attempting to put them in. In addition, they only stay in for a few minutes.

#MicroblogMonday – This and that #3

I played adult today and finally opened/started a retirement fund-thing for myself. How am I not 18 or 21 anymore? And why does it still feel like I am playing house at times?

*****

It has been 4 months since I first got my hair bleached and dyed. My “roots” were showing pretty bad, but I finally bleached them last night. I was so nervous to bleach my own hair, but it wasn’t so bad. I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself. After that, I dyed all of my hair green again. I mixed the Marge Blue and Daisy Yellow of Herman’s Amazing hair color that I had from a previous dye job. Except I used a more yellow and got a more spring green color. I love it!

There are more hair photos at the bottom. I was having fun this morning.

Tadbit might be the sporty one in the family. She loves her brother’s hockey stick and ball. She’s even pretty good at hitting the ball with the stick. But what she really likes is this mini golf club and golf ball that we got in a Kinder Surprise egg. She saw me once show Paxlet how to use it and she has been “practicing” with it ever since. The ball is also a prized item to walk around with, when we let her. (The ball is very small and more likely to be easily swallowed than choked on, but we’d still like to keep it on the outside.)

Yesterday I gave Paxlet his very own craft box. I took crafty items from my many craft boxes, put them in a box just for him and told him to go at it. He loved it! There is stickers, tape, a glue stick, tissue paper, colored paper, cardboard bits, wooden craft shapes, straws, string, fuzz balls, and so on. Scissors are kept separately, which he can have when he asks for them.

And the rest of the pictures.

#MicroblogMonday – More hair fun!

I can’t wait for Paxlet to have an opinion on his hair. I want to see how he wants it cut/styled. Mohawk? Long? Shaved? Colors*?

*****

Tadbit had her first hair cut a week ago Sunday. Literally, it was one hair. It was growing down into her eye, while the rest of the hairs are still at forehead length.

*****

I bought these two hair dye colors last week: Herman’s Amazing hair color in Marge Blue and Daisy Yellow.
wp-1457984477619.jpeg
I should have put them my hair once the kids were asleep that night, but by the time they were asleep, I just couldn’t be bothered. So I finally dyed my hair on Friday, when I thought for sure Tadbit would take a 1-2 hour nap. She only napped one hour. I put her in her crib, dragged it in the hallway and let her watch me dye my hair. When it was time to wash the dye out, she got a bath and I got a shower. Both of us were happy.

I love the green I got when I mixed the two colors! I can’t wait to do it again in a couple of weeks. I’m also thinking of trying out some more colors at some point in the (near?) future.

*Coloring we’ll have to look at for chemical and safety reasons, but I’m not opposed to colors.

The “me” on the inside

For the most part, I’ve always dressed pretty normal and nothing that outlandish. During my last two years of high school*, where I finally felt like I fit in, I dressed “hippy chick”-ish and also grunge-ish. Both styles in the same week, most likely. I got my nose pierced when I was 16 almost 17 (1993) and dyed my hair with Kool-aid a few times and even used Forest Green Manic Panic once. But for the most part, the outside me looked pretty normal.

My friends at the time dressed much more out there than me. They wore their… genre? style? personality? …much more out there for all to see. Some of my friends were skaters, punks, gutter punks (think train-hopping stinky and dirty *grin* it was true!), grunge and then there was my BFF who was very hippy chick (patchouli anyone?). All the same, but individual in our own way. We were “The Corner People“. The only other person who had their nose pierced at the time was a guy. He pierced his septum (you know, like where bull’s have the ring?) himself! This guy also stapled his pants to his legs because…I don’t remember why. And he had an amazing mo-hawk! Until he chopped it off one day, but that’s another story. This guy was very…punk.

But me, even to this day, I’m not sure how I fit in the group. Or how or why they accepted me. (But I am thankful they did!)

The inside me…that’s a whole different me. The inside me loves gothic, punk, piercings, tattoos, grunge, skater and more. I see people dressed in any of those different styles while out and about and I just want to smile at them**, admire their clothes/hair/whatever. But because I look so “normal” I am worried they’ll think I’m…a fake? a wanna be? I just don’t know how to wear those styles on a regular basis and pull it off. I also feel that the lifestyle I have chosen just doesn’t fit any of those. I’m still a pretty normal looking girl. Well, except now that I have green hair!

I have green hair! Somehow, this green hair on the outside of me has made me feel a bit more like the inside me. I can now be seen walking down the street (pushing a stroller) with my green hair. I sort of feel like I have a bit of street cred now.

My gosh this all sounds silly now that I’ve written it all down. Basically, the outer me feels a bit more like the inner me these days.

*We moved across town to the other nearby town, thus my switching high schools.

**I’ve lived in Finland too long. If you smile at or talk to anyone on the street/bus, you are either a) drunk or b) foreigner. Ok, maybe not really…but well, yeah it still does hold some truth. LOL
