#MicroblogMonday – Xmas glass

I’ve almost got my baking sorted for gifts. This year every cookie/sweet recipe I think of making has chocolate in it.

This year, we’ll be going to my BIL and SIL’s for Xmas. We’ve always gone to my in-laws (for the last 17 years, minus one year in the US), so this is going to be…different. My kids will get to see and meet Santa for the first time. (Paxlet doesn’t believe in him. Thanks Mr Siili.) However, Santa won’t be showing up until 8:15pm. My kids are usually asleep by then. It’s going to be a looong Xmas eve.

Here’s some glass stuff I’ve finished, just in time for the holidays. I have a couple more of these hearts finished, in different colors, and many more waiting to be soldered.

These Santas/elves and stars I made 5 years ago, but only just got the beads put on them to hang them. I had sort of procrastinated on it, but in the end it was good I did. My current glass “teacher” has this ultraviolet glue thingy that can attach beads to glass and they stay put much better than epoxy and metal clasps.

These angels are another thing from 5 years ago. I had everything soldered together except the heads and halos.

#MicroblogMonday – cats, glass & advent calendar

The cats have come out of hiding a tiny bit. Last night, Mr Siili and I wiggled a toy and white-face played with it. She doesn’t want you to try and touch her, but she will play some. Black-face has let me touch her once or twice, while she is under the bed. Yeah, we don’t have names for them yet, so we are calling them white-face and black-face. Original, huh?

White-face watching me. This is as far as she will come downstairs, that we know of.

I finished a couple of heart decorations today and added heads to two angels that I started 5 years ago. Pictures to come, someday.

As it is December and the countdown to Xmas is on, it is advent calendar season. I don’t remember them much, if at all, in my childhood, but here they are big. You can buy chocolate filled, toy filled, pictures only and any other fillings you can think of, usually for a price. There is also the endless diy versions too. I don’t want to feed my kids more sugar, nor buy toys for them, so I set out to create my own advent calendar with mostly crafts to do and moments to have with Paxlet and Tadbit. What we have done so far…

A gingerbread igloo and penguins with eggs.

Snowman cards.

Joulutorttu (Christmas tortes/pastries)

Glue colored rice on stars.

Glitter and glitter-glue on stars.

Paxlet cut out his stars. I cut Tadbit’s. Then we decorated them.

Xmasy stickers on stars.

I gave them a set of bracelets each (,50 cents each 🙂 ).

There were glowsticks in this. We went for an evening walk with the glowsticks, then they got to take them into their bath to play.

#MicroblogMonday – It’s been a Monday

This morning started with Tadbit being awake from 4-5. I’m not sure why she was awake, as she didn’t tell me, but she sure didn’t like my raised voice just before 5 telling her to go back to sleep.

Then, a yogurt cup exploded all over the inside of my bag. Yes, it was not very smart of me to not put it in a condom (aka a plastic bag). But how was I to know that my bag would jump toward freedom as the bus doors opened because I forget to keep it leashed over my shoulder when I stood up on the bus? The plastic yogurt container was shredded upon impact. I think my bag has survived the wash.

I got two nice cuts from glass class today. On the flip side, I finished the pencil holder I was making. It’s a bit wonky, but that’s me. My box:

My next project: some hearts of all colors.

#MicroblogMonday – Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! We’re not doing much to celebrate it here, but I have put my cat ears and tail on for the day. I get lots of looks. LOL.

The kids and I made pumpkins the other day. These are mine.

The winter tires were put on my car this weekend. I’m so thankful to Mr Siili and his brother (and family). The snow can come now. In fact, I’d prefer a bit colder and snow than this hovering just above freezing. The damp cold just goes to my bones.

Daylight savings was this last weekend. I forgot about it and thought the kids had actually let us sleep in until 7:20! It took me two hours to realize the time had changed and Tadbit had actually woken me up at 6:20. This morning was even worse.
Let me just say, kids + daylight savings = suckage!

I’m heading to my glass class again tonight. I’m by far the youngest person there, at 40 years of age. There are a couple of Finns that have lived in the US for many years and one Swedish-Finnish lady, but I still feel like I am the only foreigner. Everyone is nice and their works are amazing. I feel I need to step up my game and do something where I actually take my time to do it properly. Most of all, it’s nice to have a few hours of total me time.

Fast weekend, like always

As the title says, this weekend has gone by way too fast. Like they always do.

My Friday night was a lazy one. Hubby was at a friends playing their online game. I was at home watching a movie (Easy A) and 1 episode of a tv show (Being Human) on the computer. I then crawled into bed. I didn’t go to sleep right away, but rather played Angry Birds on my phone. hehe

Saturday morning was lazy. Then we went food shopping, via car so that hubby could pick up our CPU from friend’s house. I did the dishes and then made choco-chip cookies. We went to sauna. After sauna I made pizza dough and then pizza. That led to more dirty dishes, so I washed them again.

Through the day and into the wee hours of the night, hubby and I went downstairs to the young teens a floor below (and in the studio, not directly below us) and asked them to be quiet. First time hubby asked them to turn their rave/techo music down. Second time I asked them (in English) to turn their Nightwish/Evanesance music down. The girl came to the door with her black eye make-up streaked down her face. 😦 And finally again at 2am, I went down a third time to ask them (in Finnish, in case she didn’t understand me in English) to turn down the music and their voices as we can hear everything. In addition, after 10pm it’s supposed to be quiet and I have to be up early! They’ve managed to keep it down for the most part today. Maybe they’ve made up.

Today, Sunday, was glass class. I made 24 pieces of “art”. I’ll try to go pick them up tomorrow after work ,but before BodyCombat. And now this evening, I am catching up on some stuff. I tried to fill out an apartment loan application for the bank that I have a meeting with next week, but the form asked us questions that we just weren’t able to answer as we did not have the information. I am also making some little key-chain/phone dangley angels from beads. I am thinking I’ll give them to co-workers tomorrow for Valentine’s Day.

I know this coming week will be insane! Monday, I will go sign a varaussopimus with a real estate company for a paritalo we are interested in. We have until end of March to get bank crap in order and decide if we want this place (and if hubby gets a job by then). And I need to go to the gym. Tuesday I have a bank appointment to discuss how loans work and all of the crap we need to know. Wed, I pick up my wedding dress/skirt top from the seamstress (the corset thingies were broken/bent) and then run to another bank for another loan meeting. Mid-day Wednesday, I have my next doctor’s appt. After work I should to dye my hair. Thursday is a somewhat normal day, but I do have a couple hour meeting at work. And then Friday I am off from work! It is Mika’s defense and Karonkka day. So, I’ll be at the university during the day watching his defense. Then Pirkko and I run to the hair dressers, then back to get Mika, finish getting dressed and then go to the Karonkka. Who knows how late the Karonkka will last, but I’m tired already. LOL
